Dietary Restrictions for Dialysis Patients
Dialysis is a process for removing waste and excess water from the blood, and is used primarily as an artificial replacement for lost kidney function in people with renal failure.
Although dialysis can help patients expel toxins from their bodies, it makes human bodies lose a lot of nutrients. So it’s important for patients to have a good diet. A good diet can not only help patients supplement nutrition, but also improve their physical immunity. Some foods are nourishing, however, they are bad to patients. So pay attention to the following foods.
Dietary restrictions:
1. Salty food: Because dialysis patients have little urine or no urine, so they should limit their sodium salt intake, adopt low-salt or no-salt diet.
2. Plant protein food: Plant protein food contains high protein, but it’s not good for patients with damaged kidney. So patients should not eat bean products.
3. High potassium food: High potassium food will aggravate kidney’s burden, it’s bad for dialysis patients. So patients should limit foods intake that contain potassium like mushroom, seaweed, cabbage, banana, celery, pumpkin etc.
4. High phosphorus food: Dialysis patients should limit phosphorus intake (600-1200mg per day), these foods contain phosphorus: yolk, animal organs, chocolate, millet, mung bean.
5. Stimulating food: avoid eating spicy food, garlic, ginger etc.
