Proteinuria is protein in the urine. Protein is supposed to be in the blood for nutrition supply.
There is no or only little protein in healthy people’s urine. Generally, protein in urine in 24 hours should be below 0.15g. If it’s over 0.15g, it’s positive in tests, namely plus in the reports. If it’s over 3.5g, it is massive proteinuria and is also called renal proteinuria.

Why is there protein in urine?
One is physiological reason. As mentioned previously, blood flows to kidneys 50 times everyday. But if we do heavy work, do strenuous exercise, have violent mood swings or eat irritating food, blood circulation will be promoted and blood flows to kidneys more frequently which increases burden on kidneys. As long as glomerular filtration speed exceeds tubular reabsorption speed, protein will be leaked out, which is proteinuria. But generally in this case, proteinuria disappears soon and it is not over 2+. Second is pathological reason. This is simple. Damage in kidneys results in protein leakage. This damage can be damage in glomeruli or in tubules. The two causes manifests differently and treatment is different. As for treatment, it is divided into two types:
One is hormone suppression, which is the most conventional treatment because hormone aims at decreasing permeability of the kidney cells so as to stop protein leakage.
